Masters Athletics - Coaching and Strength and ConditioningMasters athletics is for those aged 35 and over and is split into 5 year age groups. It is a fantastic way to test yourself against your age group, have fun and meet new people. You can take part in any level of competition from local to World, and it is open to all to all levels of ability. Competitions take place all over the world and it gives an opportunity to travel and do something different with a great sense of achievemnt. We provide coaching and strength and conditioning specific to your age and event/s. You don’t need to be a member of a club or currently be training in athletics or have even been to an athletics track since you were at school. The amazing thing about athletics is everyone can find an event they enjoy and all levels are welcome at masters competitions. The training is provided by Matt who is a level 4 strength and conditioning coach, athletics coach, triathlon coach and personal trainer. He has considerable experience with the masters age group and has trained people to achieve PB’s in numerous events recreationally and at National and World level. He will use all of his knowledge and experience to make sure you get the best training for you to achieve your aims.We provide training as detailed below and we can plan something specfic to you, your time, aims and budget. Training PlansIn addition to your training we provide detailed training plans. You will receive a long term plan which will give an overview of your whole training period up to the start of your event. You will receive weekly plans with each session written in detail for you to carry out. These will be reviewed on a weekly basis making sure you are meeting your aims.
TechniqueThe event technique work will take place primarily at Blackbridge Jubilee athletics track off Podsmead Road in Gloucester. The track is a great venue where we have access to all required equipment and areas.Some technique work will also take place in our outdoor training area dependant on what we’re working on. Event technique is very important as it doesn’t matter how strong or fit you are if you can’t do the event technically well you’ll never perform to your full potential. Bad technique can also be a cause of injuries and pain. Good technique means you’re efficient, won’t waste energy and use the forces you create correctly which improves your performance.
Strength and ConditioningStrength and conditioning helps with athletics for many reasons. It isn’t just about lifting weights but also agility, mobility and motor skills. It helps reduce the chance of getting injured by working on your body’s ability to deal with the forces you will face. It makes your events easier and improves your performance as getting stronger means you produce more force which means less effort and more power and speed. Your posture will improve as your core and trunk gets stronger. It is such a beneficial area for all athletics events.Our strength and conditioning training is specific to you and your aims and ability. It takes place in ourexclusive studio or outdoor training area in Eastington near to Junction 13 of the M5.
